Supporters of ousted chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno on Thursday said Solicitor General Jose Calida should not presume that they have “ill motives” in filing a complaint against him.
In a television interview also on Thursday, Calida said he is under attack as Sereno was ousted because his quo warranto petition was responsible for the removal of Sereno.
Calida made the statement after retired businesswoman Jocelyn Marie Acosta-Nisperos filed a complaint against him before the Office of the Ombudsman.

The government’s lead counsel called Nisperos’ complaint as a “vicious, malicious concoction.”
Calida said, “I can handle all attacks. The question is, can they handle my counter-attack?”

Atty. Jojo Lacanilao, Sereno’s lawyer, said Calida’s statement is unfair.
“Hindi ka naman pwedeng atakehin kung walang basis yung atake sa’yo. Let’s not put those ill motives dun sa mga nagtatanggol lang sa katotohanan,” Lacanilao said at a press conference.
Lacanilao said Calida’s argument is ‘ad hominem’ or a fallacy. /vvp
