LUCENA CITY – A tricycle driver died and three of his passengers were injured in a road accident in Candelaria town in Quezon province early Thursday.

A police report said the ill-fated tricycle being driven by Joel Magnaye was bumped from behind by a Toyota Vios while both vehicles were traversing the Maharlika Highway in Barangay (village) Mangilag Sur around 1:30 a.m.

With the strong impact, the tricycle lost its handlebar and went wayward then consequently collided with an incoming cargo truck.

All victims – Magnaye, Jerick Sumague, Gio Villanueva, and John Paolo Patino – were taken to Candelaria Doctors Hospital but Magnaye died along the way.                     /kga
