A cable problem forced hundreds of commuters to deboard the Light Rail Transit (LRT)-2 trains on Wednesday morning, marking the first time the LRT-2 line encountered operational problems this year.
The mishap was caused by an obstruction on the catenary wires, or the cables running along the tracks and which supply electricity to the trains, between J. Ruiz and V. Mapa stations in Manila, said LRT Authority spokesperson Lyn Paragas-Janeo.
The LRTA has yet to determine what the blockage was, although Janeo said the obstruction was likely stuck to the trains running the mainline.
LRT-2 is implementing provisionary service due to a catenary problem between J.Ruiz and V. Mapa stations. Service available from Santolan to Cubao and vice versa only. Intervention is ongoing. We will give further updates later. Sorry for the inconvenience.

As of writing, the LRT-A is implementing provisional service from Santolan to Cubao—or four out of its 11 stations—as none of their trains are able to get past J. Ruiz until they have cleared the lines.
No one was recorded hurt or injured, but hundreds of passengers were asked to go out of their trains along Legarda and Recto stations.
With around 13.8 kilometers of rail laid across Manila to Marikina City, the LRT-2 line is the least busy transit line in Manila with around 200-300,000 riders daily. /vvp
