A Korean tourist guide and his four Korean guests were injured when the vehicle they rode overturned in barangay Matibago, Lapu-Lapu City, at dawn yesterday.
Kim Min Geon, the owner and driver of the Nissan Cube sedan, was drunk when the accident occurred at 2:40 a.m., said P01 Arnel Gabucan, traffic investigator of the Lapu-Lapu City Police.
Kim, a resident of Pacific Villa 1, Pajac, Lapu-Lapu, tested positive for alcohol, said police.
The four injured passengers were identified as Ko Mansung, Park Hieun, Park Hyoeon and Kim Hoyoung.
Police said the group came from sitio Datag and was headed for barangay Basak.
The vehicle was speeding when Kim lost control of the wheel as the car reached a blind curve.
The car overturned several times before it rammed a concrete fence of a house and a store.
Paramedics from the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation brought the victims to the Chong Hua Hospital in Cebu City.
They were treated for bruises.
Kim was later brought to the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office.
Yesterday was Kim’s second motor vehicle accident, the police found out later.
He was jailed for reckless driving after the first mishap.
Police said it’s up to the four other Koreans whether to file charges against Kim.
The owners of the fence and store said they wanted compensation for the damage. /WITH CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA
