CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao – The new Army division commander in Central Mindanao on Tuesday urged the public to remain vigilant following a foiled bombing attempt in Tacurong City in Sultan Kudarat province on Monday.

Major General Cirilito Sobejana also lauded alert civilians for informing authorities about the bombing attempt by a certain Yasser Saligan of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF).

The bomb was recovered in front of a public school along the national highway in Tacurong City at 3 p.m. Monday.

The IED was fashioned from a 105-millimeter shell with mobile phone as trigger mechanism.

Sobejana, quoting a report from the Joint Task Force Talakudong, said the bombing attempt could be part of the BIFF plot to set off explosives in the region.

“I urge the public to be vigilant at all times and to report immediately any suspicious thing or acts to the military and the police to prevent terror attacks,” Sobejana said. EDWIN O. FERNANDEZ
