LUCENA CITY – A woman died and four others were severely injured in a road accident in Sampaloc town in Quezon province early on Monday.
The police reported that a tricycle, driven by Ruel Maranan, was negotiating a descending section of the Barangay Banot provincial road at around 12:45 a.m. when the vehicle suddenly lost its brake.
The wayward vehicle hit the protective steel barrier along the side of the road, causing the tricycle to stumble. All of its passengers were injured.
The rescuers took the victims to Mauban District Hospital in nearby Mauban town for treatment but Melanie Maranan, the wife of the tricycle driver, died along the way.
The police said the driver and the other passengers – Miraflor Calubayan, Analiza Marchan and Arnold Arsaga – sustained injuries and are still confined at the hospital. /vvp
