Group to hold shootfest as it celebrates 30 years

THE Cebu Pistol and Rifle Association (CPRA) will host an international competition, the Asia-Pacific Glock Invitational, in celebration of its 30th anniversary.

Around 500 participants from the Asean region are expected to join the grand shootfest, which will be held at Plantation Bay Resort and Spa in Mactan Island tomorrow, Nov. 25 until Nov. 27.

“We hope that this shootfest will boost tourism in Cebu,” CPRA director Jake Marques said during the 888 News Forum on Tuesday.

A Glock pistol will be awarded during the shootfest. Another Glock pistol will be raffled to participants in the pistol match as door prize during the awarding party. Glock USA president Sven De Souter will award certificates to the participants.

In its 30 years of existence, CPRA has maintained a 100 percent safety record in its facilities, events and training programs.

In 1987, CPRA started its firearms training, safety and weapons proficiency program for the police units in Cebu.

The group provides free weapons training and values formation to policemen at least once a year.

Marques said the training will take two to three months.

“We train the police how to handle their weapons safely,” Marques told reporters during the forum.

“The training will also help police carry out their jobs effectively,” he added. /correspondent Rhea Ruth V. Rosell
