Cop shot dead in Tondo

A police officer was gunned down by two men onboard a motorcycle in Tondo, Manila on Saturday morning.

According to an initial report from the Manila Police Department (MPD), the victim, identified as PO2 Carlo Pineda, of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Holding Admin Unit, was in a drinking session near a basketball court at F. Varona corner Francisco Streets in Barangay 75 when the suspects appeared and shot him.

Pineda who was previously assigned at the MPD’s homicide unit, was rushed to the Gat Andres Bonifacio Hospital by his friend but was later declared dead on arrival after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds.

The gunmen quickly fled after the shooting but investigators from the MPD are now gathering footages from closed circuit television footages within the area to help identify the suspects. /muf
