An Asagiri-class destroyer of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) docked on Friday at Pier 15 in South Harbor in Manila for an overnight goodwill visit.
The warship was welcomed by Captain Joselo A. Tuballa of the Philippine Navy.
The welcome ceremonies were followed by a port briefing aboard the JS Setogiri, which has a 200-man crew.
Capt. Susumi Moriyama, commander of the JMSDF’s Escort Division Seven, and Cmdr. Tokeshi Tonegawa, commanding officer of the JS Setogiri, were scheduled to make a courtesy call on Navy chief Vice Adm. Robert Empedrad.
The Setogiri is the fourth Japanese warship to visit the country this year. —JAYMEE T. GAMIL
