The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Thursday said 15 more members of the ISIS-linked Maute group have surrendered to the government, bringing the total number of surrenderers to 42.
“I believe the support of the Maute-ISIS is waning because we have 42 surrenderers na ngayon…Ang nakikita namin is the support of the Maite is waning considering nakikita na natin na maganda ang nangyayari sa rehabilitation,” AFP chief Gen. Carlito Galvez Jr. told reporters in Marawi City.
He said the surrenderers “are known to the circles of the Mautes.”
Earlier, 27 former terrorists who surrendered to the government were presented to President Rodrigo Duterte when he visited Marawi City last week. /vvp
