Newly-installed Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III on Thursday said he would rather focus on his job as the leader of the upper chamber than be distracted by critics.
“It’s a compliment. I should treat it is as compliment. As far as public service is concerned, my record will speak for itself,” he said of criticisms hurled against him.
Sotto, who was elected Senate President on Monday, lamented that some people were not aware of his accomplishments as a public servant.
Sotto said It must have been because he was a good actor and comedian, adding that it was not easy to make people laugh.
“Ganoon pala kami kagaling na actor and comedian kasi hindi sila naka move on. That is how effective we were,” Sotto said.
“Kahit na 160 plus na batas ang nagawa mo, ang naalala mo pa rin yung dati,” he added.

Sotto’s election as Senate President did not sit well with some people. On social media, the senator was heavily criticized over his supposed lack of qualification for the position.
“I remain positive especially now that I am the Senate President. I can’t afford distraction,” Sotto said
“I do not pay attention to these distractions. I focus on my job,” he added.
As the most senior senator, Sotto maintained that he has dutifully done his job as legislator for three decades.
Sotto also said he has distanced himself from the hit noontime show “Eat Bulaga” on GMA-7 to devote his time on legislative works. /muf
