Marinduque Lone District Rep. Lord Allan Velasco on Wednesday said he is ready to take on the challenge and be the next House majority leader “if the position is opened and offered” to him.
Velasco disclosed this following insinuation resurfaced that there will be a change of leadership in the lower chamber.
“If the position is opened and offered to me, why not?” he said.
Rumors that former president and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo would be taking over the leadership of the House continue to float around, especially after Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte’s dispute with Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez.
But Alvarez had already shrugged off this rumored rift with Mayor Sara, saying: “Kwento lang ‘yun [They are just stories].”

Velasco also believes that the change in the House leadership is unlikely.
“Actually I heard about it. I think, just like before, remember there was a rumor a couple of months ago that there will be a change of leadership in the House. But definitely, it was all rumors,” he said.
He said these rumors may have been triggered once again because of the change of leadership in the Senate.
“And now I think because of the change of leadership in the Senate, I guess it got floated again that there might be a change in leadership. And I think from what I heard yesterday, they’re actually looking at me to be the next majority leader,” Velasco said.
