CEBU CITY — The Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) said 29 private higher education institutions in Central Visayas have applied for an increase in tuition this school year.
Of the 29 schools, 16 would raise tuition of incoming freshmen while the rest would impose the new rates on old students.
Freddie Bernal, CHEd regional director, declined to identify these schools since their application had yet to be approved by the CHEd central office. He said one school withdrew its application for tuition increase.
Under the Education Act of 1982, private schools are allowed to determine rates of tuition and other fees subject to the rules and regulations issued by the CHEd, the Department of Education, and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority. —Futch Anthony Inso
