Despite Tuesday morning’s disruption in its train operation, the management of the Metro Rail Transit 3 (MRT-3) still saw a silver lining out of the glitch experienced by thousands of passengers.

MRT-3 media relations officer Aly Narvaez said prior to the unloading incident at the Araneta Center-Cubao Station, the MRT-3 has achieved a “record-breaking” feat of 28 consecutive days of glitch-free operations.

The MRT-3 management said this could be the longest streak the rail system experienced in seven years.

Narvaez touted the transit line’s feat after a train was forced to unload about a thousand commuters at the Araneta Station due to a “door failure.”

While there had been recent improvements at the MRT-3, Narvaez said it does not necessarily mean that unloading incidents would totally come to an end.

“Gaya po ng anumang makina, sistema o pasilidad, hindi naiiwasan na nagkakaroon po talaga ng problema [Just like any machine, system or facility, unavoidable problems tend to happen],” Narvaez told reporters via Viber on Tuesday morning.

“Pero dahil umabot tayo sa 28 consecutive days na walang unloading, na record-breaking po sa kasaysayan ng MRT-3 operations, patunay naman po siguro ito na epektibo ang preventive, remedial at mitigation measures natin sa MRT-3 kontra aberya at perwisyo sa mga pasahero,” she said.

(But since we reached 28 consecutive days that there was no unloading incident, this is  record breaking in the history of the MRT-3 operations, proving that the preventive, remedial and mitigation measures we implement in the MRT-3 are effective.)

Likewise, the MRT-3 official apologized to distressed commuters who were offloaded at the Araneta Center-Cubao Station.

“Humihingi po tayo ng paumanhin sa mga naabalang pasahero ng unloading incident ngayong umaga. Pero sa kabila po nito, tayo po ay business as usual,” Narvaez said.

(We apologize for the passengers who were inconvenienced this morning. But aside from this, we are business as usual.)

“Makaasa po kayo na hindi tayo titigil sa pagsasaayos ng buong sistema ng MRT-3,” she assured the public.

(Rest assured that we will not stop in finding ways to improve the entire system of the MRT-3.) /jpv
