Highway robbers steal DSWD’s P2.7-M fund for CCT beneficiaries in Ifugao

BAGUIO CITY – Highway robbers have carted away P2.7 million in cash, which was intended as payout for beneficiaries of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) under its conditional cash transfer (CCT) program in Ifugao province.

An initial police report revealed on Tuesday that the money was being carried by three members of the Lagawe Multipurpose Development Cooperative (LMDC) who were on their way to Tinoc town aboard motorcycles when a still undetermined number of armed men stopped them and at gunpoint, took away the money. Police said the incident happened around 7 p.m. Monday in Sitio (sub-village) Awa, Julongan village in Kiangan town.

The DSWD tapped LMDC to disburse money for CCT beneficiaries under the government’s Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program in several Ifugao municipalities.  /kga
