The military’s main headquarters on Monday presented three surrenderers from the New People’s Army, whose tip-off resulted to the recovery of high-powered firearms during joint security operations in Quirino province.
The Joint Task Force-National Capital Region, National Intelligence Coordinating Agency- NCR, 5th Infantry Division, and Police Regional Office 2 conducted the joint operations last May 19.
It led to the recovery of two M14 rifles, four M16A1 files, upper receiver M16 rifle, one M653 baby armalite and ammunition at Sitio Kalbo, Brgy. Disimungal in Nagtipunan town, said Maj. Ernesto Teneza, assistant for civil military operations of JTF-NCR.
Security forces also recovered 15 sets of PNP uniforms and 14 pairs of combat boots.
A temporary camp of the rebels was also seized by government forces at Sitio Pulang Lupa from the same town.
The military said the information that led to the operations was tipped off by three communist rebels who turned themselves in to the government fold.
The former rebels were turned over to JTF NCR commander Brig. Gen Alan Arrojado and NICA NCR director Rufino Mendoza last May 16 before they were presented to the media at Camp Aguinaldo. /je
