Sister Fox visits Kadamay in Bulacan

CITY OF MALOLOS — Australian missionary Sister Patricia Fox spent Sunday morning in the company of urban poor group Kalipunan ng Damayang Filipino (Kadamay) at the low-cost housing sites they forcibly occupied last year in Pandi town.

Fox visited the clinics and spoke to health workers in the National Housing Authority housing sites like the Pandi Village 2 project in Mapulang Lupa village and the Villa Louise project in Barangay Siling Bata. Fox also joined an assembly of Kadamay members to draw insight about their plight.

“She is one with the poor, the less privileged, the indigenous people, she wants to help them overcome their problems,” said Michael Beltran, Kadamay information officer.

The Australian nun met some of these families before, having comforted them when their homes were demolished in Quezon City recently, Beltran said. Fox was ordered to leave the country by the end of May, but her lawyers have appealed her deportation.

Lea Maralit, Kadamay Bulacan president, said her members were willing to pay for units they took on March 8, 2017, provided they are allowed to negotiate a price they could afford. /je
