Heavy rains erode Albay road

LEGAZPI CITY –  Continuous heavy rains in the past few days have eroded a road in Ligao City in Albay province making it half-lane passable since Friday (May 19), government engineers announced on Saturday.

The heavy rains that had been pouring every afternoon for the past few days have saturated the soil underneath the road pavement along the Ligao-Pio Duran road, causing half of the highway to collapse, according to Lucy Castañeda, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Bicol spokesperson, said.

She said the DPWH Albay District Engineering Office is undertaking emergency repair works to restore the smooth flow of traffic along the affected road section.

The DPWH has dispatched engineers and equipment to work on the eroded road pavement allowing heavy and light vehicles to negotiate at a slow phase at this road section in Barangay (village) Bacong which connects
Ligao City and the neighboring town of Pio Duran. MAR S. ARGUELLES
