DAGUPAN CITY — For beating a two-year-old boy to death, a woman has been charged for murder in San Fabian town in Pangasinan province, police said on Friday (May 18).
Glaiza Silva, 31, repeatedly hit the boy with a bamboo stick and then punched him until he passed out in Angio village on May 13, said Chief Inspector Arvin Jacob, San Fabian police chief.
Silva brought the boy to the town’s health center claiming the boy fell down their stairs. Health workers took the boy to the Region 1 Medical Center here, where a doctor declared him dead on arrival.
Doctors informed the police that the contusions on the boy appeared to have come from a beating.
Silva later confessed, claiming the crying boy had annoyed her.
SP02 Bernadette Lopez, chief of the San Fabian police women and children protection desk, said the slain boy and his 4-year-old sibling were left under Silva’s care on April 15 by their mother who works in Laguna province.
Silva and the boy’s mother, who separated from her husband, have been living in the same house since October 2017.
Lopez said the two children used to be under the care of their mother’s grandmother in Laguna. But the mother decided to entrust her children to Silva, who is now detained at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology jail here.
