‘Drunk’ cop drives patrol car, bumps civilian in Cordova

A policeman assigned in Cordova town on Mactan Island, Cebu, is facing investigation after he allegedly drove a police vehicle while drunk and hit a civilian on Wednesday night.

PO2 Charlie Jao Valmoria was reportedly off duty when the incident occurred.

Berlin Peliselda Buta, 23, was walking along a road in barangay Poblacion when he was hit by a police car with plate number SJG-873 that was driven by Valmoria.

Buta was slightly injured.

The right tail light of the Hi-Lux patrol car was damaged.

Senior Supt. Patrocinio Comendador Jr., director of the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO), said he ordered Senior Insp. Noli Cernio, chief of the Cordova police, to submit evidence that will be used in the investigation.

Comendador said Cernio will be included in the investigation.

A medical report showing that Valmoria was drunk during the incident will be needed in the investigation, said Comendador.

Comendador said Valmoria claimed that he was about to respond to an illegal gambling alarm when the accident occurred.

Cebu Daily News contacted Valmoria but he refused to comment on the issue.
