Around 40 police officers were among the 156 motorists apprehended by the Interagency Council for Traffic (i-ACT) on Wednesday for various traffic violations.
Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) public information officer Sharon Gentalian said most of the officers flagged down for illegal parking and for driving colorum vehicles or those unauthorized to operate as public utility.
A total of 88 vehicles were impounded by the agency for these two violations.
The May 15 operations — which also went after smoke belchers — recorded the highest number of vehicles apprehended by 1-ACT in a single day.
In April, two policemen identified as Chief Insp. Juan Cipriano Jr. of the Southern Police District and SPO4 Ronnie Druja of the airport police were relieved of their posts for driving colorum vehicles.
They were caught driving vans to convey paying passengers at P50 each between Imus, Cavite, and Mall of Asia in Pasay City.
Druja was even in uniform and carrying his service firearm when apprehended. —Krixia Subingsubing
