Palace hails House joint panel approval of BBL committee report

Malacañang lauded on Wednesday the joint congressional committees’ approval of the panel report on the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) without amendments.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque welcomed the House of Representatives’ approval of the committee report on House Bill 6475, which seeks to abolish the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and create the Bangsamoro political entity.

“The President has expressed his support and commitment to the Bangsamoro Basic Law as a significant step towards our quest for real and lasting peace in Mindanao,” Roque said in a statement.

“By having a Bangsamoro region within the context of our Republic, we will realize the aspirations of our Moro brothers and sisters for genuine self-determination and hopefully end the decade-long armed struggle, violence. and injustice in Mindanao,” he added.

The committee on local government, voting 32-3; the committee on Muslim affairs, voting 27-3; and the special committee on peace, unity, and reconciliation, voting 27-3, approved on Tuesday the motion of Quezon City Rep. Kit Belmonte for lawmakers to approve the panel report.

The committee report would then be referred to the committee on rules and would be scheduled for plenary deliberations afterward.              /kga
