Former Presidents Estrada, Arroyo to deliver eulogies for Angara

Former Presidents Joseph “Erap” Estrada and Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, who were also former senators, will deliver eulogies for former Senate President Edgardo J. Angara at a necrological service at the Senate on Wednesday, according to his son, Sen. Sonny Angara.

Angara served as the Senate President from 1993 to 1995.

To honor Angara, who died of heart attack on Sunday, the Philippine flag was flown at half-staff at the Senate building.

Besides Arroyo and Estrada, under whom Angara served as agriculture secretary and later as executive secretary, other speakers at the necrological service will include current and former senators.

President Duterte also condoled with the family of Angara when he visited the wake at Heritage Memorial Park.

Mr. Duterte had appointed Angara as special envoy to the European Union.

The President said it was Angara who defended him at the European Union, which Mr. Duterte had difficulty getting along with.

Mr. Duterte said Angara was a “humble, quiet person, and a true diplomat.”

Necrological services were scheduled at the University of the Philippines College of Law auditorium in Diliman, Quezon City, at 6 p.m. also on Wednesday.

A wake will also be held in Baler, Aurora, on Saturday and Sunday.
