Senate adopts resolution expressing condolences on death of Angara

Senators adopted on Tuesday a resolution expressing their sympathy and “sincere condolences” on the passing of former Senator President Edgardo “Edong” Angara.

Senate Resolutions No. 732 and No. 734, initiated by Sen. Nancy Binay and incumbent Senate President Aqulino “Koko” Pimentel III, were unanimously adopted on the floor.

All 17 senators authore the measure.

Pimentel said the resolution would be presented to Angara’s family during the necrological services for the late senator scheduled at 10:00 a.m. at the Senate on Wednesday.

In his sponsorship of his resolution, the Senate leader enumerated some of the landmark laws that the late senator authored or shepherded as a lawmaker.

“I used to only associate Senator Angara with education because he authored the Free High School Education Act . But if you look at [all his laws], he’s a multifaceted, multitalented legislator involved in various aspects of Philippine society,” Pimentel said.

After adopting the resolution, the Senate immediately suspended its session in deference to Angara’s passing.
