The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has started its post-election clean up drive.
The agency said on Tuesday that more than 15 cubic meters of trash was left in the polling precincts after the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections on Monday.
At least 100 street sweepers have been deployed to major thoroughfares in Parañaque, Taguig and Makati cities along with personnel from the local government units.
“We have deployed personnel upon the request of local Comelec offices to clear campaign materials in some LGUs,” Francis Martinez, MMDA Parkway Clearing Group head, said in a statement.
“So far, we have collected 15.81 cubic meters of garbage left during the recent Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections,” he added.
Martinez, who also leads the clean up drive, said garbage collected were mostly papers, plastic, and tarpaulins.
The MMDA targets to finish the clean up operation within the week. “We do not want these garbage clogging drainages and waterways that may cause flooding,” Martinez said. /ee
