Run for Green Life this Sunday

Advocates for sustainable living are expected to converge in a fun run event tomorrow, Sunday at 4 a.m. at the University of Cebu Banilad campus.
Southern Partners and Fair Trade Centre (SPFTC), the Fair Trade Shop and Road Revolution Network are organizing the activity in partnership with UCLASS, a group of UC law students that supports initiatives that address climate change and the environment.

The Run for Green Life 2011 will culminate Cebu’s commemoration of the globally celebrated World Fair Trade Day spearheaded by fair trade organizations and communities worldwide.

Fair trade ensures fair wages for small producers and artisans.

The SPFTC and Fair Trade Shop of Cebu lead in the promotion of fair trade and its contribution in transforming lives at the grassroots communities.
SPFTC is supporting natural and organic farming and recycling efforts of 335 women in different communities. It also supports market access for their bio/eco products.

FEATURED STORIES

Road Revolution is a campaign headed by environmental advocate lawyer Tony Oposa, for the reformation of the road system favoring non-motorized, environment friendly and collective transportation systems through a local legislation or citizens’ initiative. It aims to reduce road congestion, air pollution, accidents and waste of public space, fuel and water.

The Run for Green Life 2011 has 15k, 6k and 3k categories, with runners taking off from UC Banilad going to the Cabancalan and Mandaue route.
A special category of 6k is included for the barefoot and minimalist shoes.

Registration fee ranges from P250 for the 3k and 6k to P300 for the 15k run. Runners for all three categories will receive singlet race bibs and food packs. For limited slots, students will pay only P150.

The program and awarding ceremonies will be at 7 a.m.

The public is encouraged to bring tin cans and newspapers for recycling by the grassroots communities.

Like last year, there will be free tasting of natural and organic food, courtesy of Fair SPFTC/Fair Trade Shop.
