The passing of former Senate President Edgardo J. Angara on Sunday morning, May 13, left the nation in grief.
Condolences and praises poured hours after Sen. Sonny Angara announced his father’s death.
Colleagues hailed Seja, as he is fondly at the Senate, as the people’s champion of education and a pillar of democracy.
The Angara family has released some details of the final moments leading to the death of Seja, including some photos taken from his rest house in Tagaytay City.
His remains arrived in Manila on Sunday afternoon in preparation for public viewing at the Heritage Park in Taguig City.

10:00 a.m.
Seja left his Tagaytay rest house a bit past 10 a.m. to attend the anniversary of ACCRA Law at Tagaytay Highlands.
2:30 p.m.
Seja returned to his Tagaytay rest house
3:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
His colleagues who came from the ACCRA Law anniversary celebration – Victor Lazatin, Sen. Franklin Drilon and wife Mila Genuino Drilon, Teodoro Regala and Carmina de Leon-Regala, and Regina Padilla-Geraldez arrived at Seja’s Tagaytay rest house for “merienda cena.”
Emerico de Guzman and wife followed at 7:00 p.m.
7:30 p.m.
Seja was in a jovial mood throughout the afternoon and evening. He even toured his guests around his Art House before sending them off.
The Drilons, the Regalas, Lazatin, and Geraldez left at almost 7:00 p.m. The De Guzmans stayed until about 7:30 p.m.
7:45 p.m.
Seja went to his bedroom to turn in.

According to his household staff, Seja usually wakes up between 2:30 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. to perform his morning routine. On this morning, however, he was not able to complete it.
7:00 a.m.
His caregiver went to his room to offer breakfast and Seja declined, saying he would sleep further.
8:00 a.m.
A flush of the toilet from Seja’s bathroom was heard by his caregiver and security aid.
9:00 a.m.
A cough was heard from inside his room.
10:30 a.m.
The caregiver again went into Seja’s room to check on him. This was when the caregiver noticed that he was not responsive anymore and she hurriedly tried to wake him up.
With no response from Seja, she then applied CPR.
Meanwhile, Seja’s driver the senator’s vehicle ready to take him to the hospital.
11:15 a.m.
Seja was rushed to the Tagaytay Medical Center. The hospital’s medical team failed to revive him. He was then declared dead.
2:05 p.m.
A helicopter carrying the remains of Seja arrived at Villamor Airbase in Pasay City.
