There were fewer victims of election-related violence in this year’s village and youth elections compared to the 2013 polls, Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Oscar Albayalde said on Monday.

In a press briefing at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) command center in Manila, Albayalde said 13 out of 33 deaths reported this year were confirmed to be election-related. This was lower than the 33 confirmed poll-related deaths in 2013.

“So compared sa 2013 na confirmed, mababa – 33 versus 13 this year,” Albayalde told reporters.

In total, Albayalde said 83 victims of election-related violence (death and injuries) were reported in 2018, which was lower than the 109 victims reported in 2013. /ee
