Man hurt after being shot by re-electionist Albay bgy captain

LEGAZPI CITY — A re-electionist barangay (village) captain in Pio Duran town in Albay shot and wounded an alleged supporter of his opponent inside the Cuyaoyao Elementary School in Pio Duran town on Monday morning.

Senior Inspector Darwin Sevilla, deputy chief of Pio Duran police, said that Cuyaoyao barangay captain Nilo Soria, 55, had a heated conversation with his unnamed opponent at around 7:20 a.m. when he noticed a gun on the waist of Norly Madela, 53, of Barangay Malapay, allegedly a supporter of his oppponent.

Police said Soria grabbed the gun from Madela, triggering a fight.

According to police, it was during the fight that Soria shot Madela after noticing that the latter was trying to get another gun tucked at his back.

Police said Madela sustained a bullet wound at his back which was not fatal.

Sevilla said Soria and Mahela are now both in the custody of the Pio Duran police for further investigation. /muf
