LOOK: Voting at PH largest barangay in full swing

Voting is in full swing here in  Barangay 176 Bagong Silang, Caloocan City, the country’s largest village in the midst of the election day, Monday.

Barangay Bagong Silang’s polling center is located at the Bagong Silang Elementary school, with 98,080 registered voters and 38,000 precincts, said Insp. Raymond Nicolas, PCP commander.

Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Director General Oscar Albayalde also held a quick inspection here earlier, and gamely posed for selfies with residents.

Five candidates are vying for the post of barangay (village) captain post: incumbent chair Joel Bacolod, Erlinda Abaca, Rodrigo Cacho, Apolinario Trinidad and Rogelio Yadao.

Barangay 176 occupies a land area of 5.24 square kilometers, with 243,890 residents.

Volunteers from the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) are manning the voters assistance desks here at the school’s covered court, to help voters find their respective precincts.

Other volunteers are also present to extend assistance to voters.

Directory maps of precincts were also placed near the the school’s entrance to help voters.

Aside from the usual difficulties in finding precinct numbers, Nicolas said no untoward incidents have so far happened, as the situation here remains peaceful.

However, some people continue to give out campaign materials, including sample ballots, despite a warning from the Commission on Elections against it.   /muf
