Businessman in critical condition after being shot in Cebu
CEBU CITY — A businessman, whose son is running for reelection in the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan election in Lapu-Lapu City, was in critical condition after he was shot by an unidentified assailant on Lopez Jaena Street, Barangay Poblacion around 2:30 a.m. on Monday.
SPO3 Candido Barinque, desk officer of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office, said the victim was identified as Eduardo Godornez, 69, a resident of Barangay Poblacion.
He said Godornez was about to alight from his Toyota Fortuner when a gunman repeatedly fired shots at him, hitting him in the abdomen, shoulder, and leg.
Godornez’ son James is an incumbent barangay councilor of Poblacion who is seeking reelection.
But Barinque said they could not say yet if the shooting was related to Monday’s polls since investigation was still ongoing.
He said the victim’s business dealings would also be looked into as a possible motive since Godornez was into money lending.
