Polling precincts in Metro Manila opened on time for the 2018 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Monday.

In a press briefing, Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said Metro Manila precincts opened at 7 a.m., the scheduled opening for today’s voting.

“For NCR, open na ang lahat (ng presinto). Walang reports ng aberya,” Jimenez told reporters.

However, only one precinct opened beyond the 7:00 a.m. schedule, the Comelec official noted.

But Jimenez explained that this would not mean a failure of election.

“Failure to open on time does not mean failure of elections. May contingency measures na kung mawalan ka ng oras sa simula, idadagdag sa dulo. If you open late, then you will close late,” he said. /cbb
