A voter’s identification card (ID) is not required to cast your vote in the 2018 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Monday.
Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said voters could bring any valid identification card such as company IDs, student IDs, among others, to verify their identity.
In addition, voters also need to bring their “passion for voting” to polling precincts across the country, he said.
“There has been information circulating that if you have no voter’s ID, you would not be able to vote. That isn’t true. We don’t require voter’s ID from voters,” Jimenez clarified in a press briefing on Election Day.
“Ang kailangan lang ay pangalan at verification na kayo iyon. Kapag hiningan ng ID, (pwede ipakita ang) kahit anong valid ID. Tatanggapin ng board of election tellers. ‘Di kailangan ng voter ID,” the Comelec official explained.
Earlier, Jimenez said the production of voter’s IDs had been halted amid the push for a national ID system in Congress.
“Huwag magpapadala sa misinformation,” he stressed, adding that voters could call government hotline 8888 for election-related inquiries and assistance.
In an earlier interview, Jimenez said voters “were not actually required to bring anything.” /cbb
