A total of 28 people have been killed in suspected election-related violence from the start of the election period for the 2018 Barangay and Sangguniang Elections, the police said Monday morning.
Chief Supt. John Bulalacao, PNP spokesperson, said that as of 6 p.m. of May 12, the police had recorded 30 violent incidents suspected of being election related.
Of the number, five have been confirmed to be election violence while 25 are being verified, Bulalacao said.
The PNP counted 49 victims, which include 28 dead, 9 wounded and 12 who escaped unharmed.
In the 2013 village polls, 57 violent incidents were recorded with 109 victims of whom 37 were killed. /cbb
