PAGADIAN CITY – A radio blocktimer in this city was killed in an ambush in Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur.

Marive Jongco, the provincial information officer, said Carlos Matas was killed in the ambush that took place in Barangay Nuburan past 3 p.m. Saturday.

The Labangan police confirmed receiving the same information but declined to provide details as investigators were still on the way to the area.

The Inquirer learned that it was the second ambush on Matas in a week.

On Tuesday, armed men also fired on him as he was traveling with his driver and an escort in Labangan.

Aside from hosting a paid program, Matas also acted as coordinator for a group of cassava farmers in the province. /atm
