Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno cautionedjJudges identified by President Rodrigo Duterte as involved in illegal drugs not to surrender to any police officers in the absence of a warrant of arrest.

She also sent a letter to President Duterte articulating her concerns over his public declaration of people involved in drugs.

The Supreme Court issued a writ of amparo against the anti-drug operation of the police, specifically in Payatas, Quezon City.

Suspended lawyer Eligio Mallari and the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) filed the first the impeachment complaint against of Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno at the House of Representatives.

August 30, 2017

Atty. Lorenzo Gadon filed the second impeachment complaint against Sereno.

September 2017

The House Committee on Justice ruled that Gadon’s complaint is sufficient in form and substance but dismissed the complaint filed by Mallari and VACC.

January 26, 2018

Gadon files a complaint for violation of the Anti-Graft Law against Sereno before the Department of Justice (DOJ).

February 19, 2018

Congress resumes impeachment hearing.

March 1, 2018

Sereno begins her indefinite leave.

March 5, 2018

Solicitor General Jose Calida files quo warranto case vs. Sereno before the Supreme Court

March 6, 2018

The Supreme Court ordered Sereno to comment on the petition for quo warranto.

March 8, 2018

The House Committee on Justice finds probable cause to impeach Sereno.

April 10, 2018

The Supreme Court conducted an oral argument on the quo warranto petition where Sereno was ordered to appear and answer probing questions from her colleague.

April 17, 2018

The high court set a special en banc session on May 17, 2018 to rule on the petition for quo warranto.

It was, however, moved to an earlier date of May 11, 2018.

May 10, 2018

Sereno returned to work at the Supreme Court.

May 11, 2018

The Supreme Court, voting 8-6 voted to grant the quo warranto petition making her the first impeachable official to be removed from office without undergoing trial. /jpv
