Murder suspect killed in running gun battle with Quezon cops
LUCENA CITY – A wanted criminal was killed after he allegedly engaged policemen in a running gun battle in Candelaria town in Quezon province on Thursday morning.
A report from the Quezon police office said operatives and members of the Candelaria special weapons and tactics team (SWAT) who were about to serve a warrant of arrest in Barangay (village) Malabanban Sur were met with gun fire from their target, Bernaldo Perez Dailo, 36.
Police said after firing at the policemen, Dailo, a murder suspect, tried to escape but was pursued and cornered in the
nearby village of San Andres.
But instead of surrendering, Dailo engaged the policemen in a continuous gun battle and even lobbed a grenade toward his pursuers. The grenade failed to explode.
The government forces fired back and killed Dailo on the spot.
Police recovered a caliber .45 pistol and two hand grenades from Dailo. DELFIN T. MALLARI JR.
