After ousting Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno from her post, the Supreme Court (SC) en banc ordered her to explain in 10 days why she should not be reprimanded for violating the judiciary’s code of conduct.
“Respondent Maria Lourdes P.A. Sereno is ordered to show cause within 10 days from receipt thereof why she should not be sanctioned for violating the Code of Professional Responsibility and the Code of Judicial Conduct for transgressing the sub judice rule and for casting aspersions and ill motives to the members of the Supreme Court,” the SC en banc decision read.
Voting 8-6, the SC granted the quo warranto petition filed by Solicitor General Jose Calida against Sereno, whom he accused of being unqualified to the Chief Justice post.
