Mechanic dies in Cavite City shootout

SAN PEDRO CITY-A mechanic who reportedly threatened his live-in partner with a pistol, was killed in a shootout with police in Cavite City early on Friday.

Prior to the incident, suspect Arnold Reyes, 33, a resident of Barangay (village) 48A in the city, for no apparent reason, threatened his partner Amilet Pagaduan with a gun, said Supt. Giovannie Martinez, Cavite City police chief, in a text message.

Pagaduan later went to the police station and filed a complaint against Reyes. The station then dispatched police officers to look for Reyes.

Police said the officers found Reyes along J. Felipe boulevard around 3:30 a.m.

However, as the officers approached, Martinez said Reyes reportedly opened fire with a pistol. The officers then returned fire, hitting Reyes who died while being rushed to the Bautista Hospital.

Recovered from Reyes was a caliber .45 pistol.   /muf
