Successive earthquakes shook Celebes Sea early Friday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The earthquakes occurred few seconds apart – first, at 5.0-magnitude, 169 kilometers southeast of Sarangani around 4:06 a.m.; and 20 seconds later at 4.7-magnitude, 123 kilometers southeast of Jose Abad Santos, both in Davao Occidental.
The two earthquakes were of tectonic origin.
Phivolcs said aftershock could be expected from the magnitude 5.0 quake.
No damages have been recorded, and no tsunami warnings have been raised due to both earthquakes. /kga
