Maasin City—Albert Pagara of the ALA gym scored a third round knockout over Henry Acha of Bukidnon in the main event of a fight card held Monday night at the Maasin City Gym.
Pagara started at a fast pace and scored with straight punches in the opening round. Acha managed to close the distance and landed hooks in the second.
The two boxers continued to trade hard shots in the third before Acha was floored after being hit with a quick right. Referee Ben Necessario reached the count of 10 at the 2:59 mark.
Pagara now has 9 wins without a loss, 7 by KO. Acha dropped to 5W-17L-1D, 1 KO.
This marks the third time this year that the superflyweight prospect known as “Prince” Albert headlined the professional card series entitled “Maasin Pride.”
Rey Melligen also remained unbeaten as he outpointed Ruben Santillanosa in an eight rounder.
Melligen (9W-0L, 5 KOs) had trouble with Santillanosa’s awkward style early in the fight but eventually knocked Santillanosa down in the seventh round and in the final round. A point was deducted from Santillanosa (9W-27L-2D, 5 KOs) for a headbutt that caused a cut on Melligen’s left eyelid.
The three judges’ scorecards had identical scoires of 78-72 for Melligen.
Jun “Flash” Entor has the crowd roaring with laughter in his four round bout against Crispin Parba. Entor also went on to win by majority decision. The scores: 38-38 for one judge and 40-36 on the other two for Entor.
Reymond Tabugon beat Marben Layos by unanimous decision in another four round bout. The scores for all three judges, 40-36.
The bouts were offered free to the public courtesy of the Maasin City local government led by Mayor Maloney Samaco. GAB–Cebu officials Rolando Mendoza and Celso Miranda supervised the pro bouts.
The event was opened by amateur bouts with boxers from the Phil-Aust gym of Mandaue City and Maasin City scoring two wins apiece in head-to-head match-ups.
There were also eight amateur bouts between Maasin barangay standouts.
