Magnitude 3 quake hits off Surigao del Sur

A magnitude 3 earthquake struck  115 kilometers northeast of the shoreline of Cagwait, Surigao del Sur at 2:10 p.m. on Thursday.

The 33-kilometer deep earthquake was of tectonic origin, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.

No aftershocks and no damages were expected.

The Philippines sits on the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” where continental plates collide causing frequent seismic and volcanic activity./dm
