Supporters of Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno will hold a “support protest” on Friday, hours before the special full-court session where Supreme Court (SC) justices will vote on Sereno’s fate.
Tagged as “Jericho March,” the protest will start at 4:00 a.m. in front of the Supreme Court building along Padre Faura in Manila.
A group called Coalition for Justice will ask the SC to junk the quo warranto petition, filed by Solicitor General Jose Calida, seeking to unseat Sereno.
According to the group, the quo warranto petition should be junked by the SC because based on the Constitution, only an impeachment proceeding could oust a Chief Justice.
The coalition is composed of at least 60 groups from different sectors, including religious organizations.
“Maaring hindi milyon-milyon [na tao] ang matipon natin pero ang nirerepresenta natin ay ang bayan ng Pilipinas,” Bishop Dan Balais of the Intercessors for the Philippines said on Wednesday during a press conference.
The chief magistrate had taken an indefinite leave last March but returned to work at around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
