The controversial statue paying tribute to Filipino comfort women is going on a school tour to educate students about that period in the country’s history.
“More awareness is needed,” said Teresita Ang See, head of the Movement for the Restoration of Peace and Order, one of the groups that backed the statue’s installation on Roxas Boulevard.
“We have to remember our history as part of nation building. History is the backbone of our society,” she added.
Different groups from various sectors met recently and came up with the idea of taking the statue created by Jonas Roces on a school tour. However, they did not give more details, saying they were still working on the schedule.
The meeting happened days after the statue, which was installed on Roxas Boulevard last Dec. 8 to honor Filipino women kept as sex slaves by Japanese soldiers during World War II, was removed, supposedly because of a flood control project.
