The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has tapped two organizations that would serve as poll watchdogs in the 2018 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.
In Resolution No. 18-0329, the Comelec en banc approved the petitions for accreditation filed by the National Movement for Free Elections (Namfrel) and the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV).
“The Commission resolves to adopt the recommendation of Commissioner Luie Guia that the petition and the letter of the PPCRV and NAMFREL be treated as their manifestation of intent to discharge the duties of an accredited citizens arm of the Commission,” the resolution stated.
The Comelec noted that the “PPCRV and Namfrel have been the citizens’ arms of this Commission in past elections, and have contributed to the conduct of honest, orderly, peaceful elections as such citizens arm.”
“Their continuous accreditation shall follow the same duties and responsibilities as provided under their accreditation during the 2016 National and Local Elections (NLE), insofar as it is applicable to the May 14, 2018 BSKE,” it added.
