DILG seeks full training of teachers serving in polls

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) asked the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to fully train teachers who would serve as officers in the May 14 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.

DILG spokesperson Jonathan Malaya said that it was vital, with the polls just a week away, for the Comelec to “intensify the training” of some 300,000 public school teachers who would serve as board of election inspectors.

He pointed out that there would be manual counting for the barangay and SK elections so “teachers need to be oriented again of the rules in appreciating and counting the ballots.”

The public school teachers will serve as electoral board chairs and members in 41,933 barangays nationwide, except in Marawi City where the polls have been deferred. —Jeannette I. Andrade
