BAGUIO CITY – Some 2,612 candidates in the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections signed on Thursday a peace covenant here, as commitment for a peaceful and orderly voting this May 14.
The local candidates initially gathered at the Baguio Cathedral for the 7:00 a.m. mass that preceded their formal adoption of the peace covenant.
City police chief Sr. Supt. Ramil Saculles said none of the villages here have been placed under an election watchlist, adding that: “Baguio elections have always been peaceful.”
But Mayor Mauricio Domogan discouraged the candidates from throwing mud at rivals during the campaign.
“We will not benefit from destroying each other,” Domogan said.
Specifically, the Commission on Elections said that of the 2,612 individuals, 348 aspire to become barangay chairpersons; 1,803 want to become barangay kagawad; 247 vie for the SK chairmanship; and 214 seek to become part of the SK councils in this city. /kga
