Soldier killed, another hurt in attack by suspected rebels in Bukidnon

One soldier was killed while another was wounded in an attack by suspected communist rebels in Bukidnon, the military said Tuesday.

The soldiers, both members of the Army’s 88th Infantry Battalion, were both gunned down by riding-in-tandem assailants in sitio Sto. Domingo, Brgy. Lumintao in Quezon around 10 a.m. on Monday, said 1Lt. Marisol Fulgosino of the 403rd Brigade.

The two soldiers, who were reportedly doing legwork for the documents for a livelihood project at the time of the shooting, were unarmed and in civilian clothing at the time of the incident.

The identities of the soldiers were withheld pending the notification of their families.

“This inconsiderate attack upsets me. My heart laments with the grieving family for their loss. Rest assured that we will seek justice for the families of the aggrieved soldiers,” said Lt. Col. Randy Remonte, commanding officer of the 88th Infantry Battalion. /je
