Authorities are looking into politics as a possible motive behind the killing of Echavez, who filed his certificate of candidacy for the post in Barangay 4, Zone 1.

Six spent shells of an unknown caliber were recovered at the crime scene. Another victim identified as Orlando Buenaventura, whose house was located near the area, was also rushed to the hospital after he was hit by a stray bullet.
