Aside from thousands of police units, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) is also set to deploy human rights officers in the series of Labor Day rallies on Tuesday to respond to any incident of human rights violations.
NCRPO chief Regional Dir. Camilo Pancratius P. Cascolan said on Monday that human rights officers from the regional and district headquarters would be deployed together with representatives of the Commission of Human Rights (CHR).
The team is in addition of the civil disturbance management (CDM) team stationed in different rally points in Metro Manila.
“Together representatives from the Commission on Human Rights, Chief of Regional Human Rights Affairs Office and District Human Rights Officers are tasked to immediately act on any incident/s of human rights violation that may occur,” Cascolan said in a statement.
He said human rights would be strictly observed during the rallies, which is expected to draw 8,000 protesters from different parts of Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
Cascolan said the CDM contingent is made up of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion and forces from the NCRPO and its police districts.
A company of the PNP SAF-CDM Contingent would be on stand-by together with one company composed of personnel from the Regional Headquarters Support Group, Regional Special Training Unit and other Regional Support Units, Cascolan said.
The NCRPO is also in close coordination with concerned government and non-government agencies in providing security and public safety coverage, traffic management and emergency preparedness and response during the celebration, the Metro Manila police chief said.
